About Us

The Queen's Comprehensive Weight Management Program (CWMP) is a specialty weight loss program that was established in 2004 in response to the increasing incidence of obesity and Type II diabetes mellitus in the State of Hawai`i. The Queen's CWMP offers two approaches to achieve weight loss and long-term weight management: a Surgical Weight Loss Program and a non-surgical Medical Weight Loss Program.

Surgical Weight Loss Program

The Surgical Weight Loss Program is designed primarily to help individuals who are at least 100 pounds overweight. Individuals who suffer from Type II diabetes mellitus, obstructive sleep apnea, and other obesity related health problems may qualify for metabolic/bariatric surgery at a slightly lower weight.  With bariatric surgery, weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach, removing a portion of the stomach or by resecting and re-routing the small intestines to a small stomach pouch.

Medical Weight Loss Program

The Queen's Comprehensive Weight Management Program (CWMP) Medical Weight Loss Program offers non-surgical options designed for patients who want to lose weight and improve their obesity related co-morbidities.  These patients may not be eligible for weight loss surgery, or simply may not choose to consider surgery.  This is a physician-directed weight loss program based on scientific principles that target the root cause of your weight gain and excess weight.

Our team of weight loss professionals utilizes a solid skill set in weight loss technology and lifestyle management tools, along with a thorough understanding of an individual’s medical and psychological co-morbidities, to individualize the patient’s weight loss plan.  We combine evidence-based strategies using controlled caloric and nutrient specific diets, medication management, co-morbidity management, exercise and lifestyle interventions, nutrition education and counseling, behavior management strategies, and the compassionate emotional support needed to assist each patient to achieve long-term success.

Support and constant application of weight loss intervention tools are the keys in our long-term weight maintenance program.  Losing weight is great, but teaching patients how to keep it off is our focus.  By seeing patients at least monthly during the initial weight loss phase, we establish a safe therapeutic bond which fosters long-term follow-up.

Queen's is proud to offer you both surgical and medical weight loss options.  Our multidisciplinary team of professionals is dedicated to collaborating with you to help you reach your weight loss goals.
